Nebst den grünen Wäldern bietet die kleine Yakushima-Insel am südlichsten Punkt Japans, auch Wasserfälle, Strand und warme Quellen; die Onsen.

Yakushima was declared a UNESCO cultural heritage due to its rich flora and that of the long-lived sickle firs. The oldest fir, the Jōmon Sugi, is estimated to be between 2170 and 7200 years old. In addition to the green forests, the small Yakushima Island on the southernmost point of Japan also offers waterfalls, beaches and hot springs; the onsen.

Der Kimono ist ein traditionelles, japanisches Kleidungsstück. Ungefähr ab dem Jahr 1192 blieb der Grundschnitt für Männer wie Frauen grundlegend unverändert. Ein Kimono Für Frauen besteht aus mindestens 12 Einzelteilen, für Männer aus fünf. Kimonos werden vorwiegend zu speziellen Anlässen getragen, zu Hochzeiten, Teezeremonien oder bestimmten Sportarten. Einige ältere Frauen tragen noch täglich einen Kimono. Hochwertige Kimonos werden handgenäht und die verwendeten Stoffe sind gleichfalls oft handgemacht und aufwändig dekoriert. Eine komplette Ausstattung – Kimono, Unterkleider, Obi, Bänder, Socken, Sandalen und Zubehör – können über SFr. 20`000 kosten.

The kimono is a traditional Japanese garment. From around 1192, the basic cut for men and women remained fundamentally unchanged. A kimono consists of at least 12 individual parts for women and five for men. Kimonos are mainly worn on special occasions, at weddings, tea ceremonies or certain sports. Some older women still wear a kimono every day. High quality kimonos are made by hand and the fabrics used are also often handmade and elaborately decorated. Complete equipment - kimono, petticoats, obi, ribbons, socks, sandals and accessories - can be purchased for SFr. Cost 20`000.

Eine faszinierende und historische Stadt. Die Menschen empfand ich als bedachter und noch rücksichtsvoller als im Norden. Hiroshima wurde im 2. Weltkrieg, am 6. August 1945 durch eine Atombombe weitgehend zerstört. Hiroshima bietet im und um den Friedenspark einige beeindruckende Sehenswürdigkeiten.

Die Stadt Osaka bleibt mir als Wirtschaftsstadt mit dem vielen Beton als `grau` und emotionslos in Erinnerung. Die Menschen sind hingegen, wie überall im Land, auch hier extrem Hilfsbereit und geduldig. Die weiss-goldene `Burg Osaka` blieb mir als beeindruckender Teil der Stadt in schöner Erinnerung. Festgehalten in meinem Werk als weisses Viereck mit 23 Karat Blattgold.

The white-golden `Osaka Castle` was a fond memory of me as an impressive part of the city. Recorded in my work as a white square with 23 carat gold leaf.

Die Yakuza (Kimi) ist eine kriminelle Organisation, auch `japanische Mafia` genannt. Ursprünglich bestanden sie aus Bauern und Handwerker, hauptsächlich jedoch Kaufleuten, welche sein Land oder Geschäft durch Glücksspiel, Naturkatastrophen oder Plünderer verloren oder kam als Flüchtling vor Unruhen oder Strafverfolgung mittellos in eine neue Stadt. Die Yakuza gab einem dann eine Unterkunft und Arbeit. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg organisierten sie den Schmuggel und Schwarzhandel. Seit 1993 ist in Japan das sichtbare Bekenntnis zu einem kumi strafbar. Yakuza verwenden seit hunderten von Jahren großflächige Tätowierungen als Ausdruck der Gruppenzugehörigkeit. Auch heute noch werden Tätowierungen in Japan direkt mit den Yakuza assoziiert.

Auch heute noch sind Tätowierungen in Japan direkt mit den Yakuza assoziiert, weshalb Tätowierten der Zutritt zu öffentlichen Badeanstalten meist untersagt ist oder allgemein Tätowierungen öffentlich nicht gezeigt werden.

Hanami (Kirschblüte betrachten) ist ein traditionell, japanisches Fest, welches jeden Frühling mit grosser Erwartung gefeiert wird. Familien und Freunde treffen sich, meist mit Bier und Sake unter den Blüten gefüllten Kirschbäumen.

In manchen Parks werden die nächtlichen Kirschbäume angestrahlt, die weißen und hellrosa Blüten bilden einen wunderschönen Kontrast zur Schwärze der Nacht.

Die wunderschöne Sakura (Kirschblüte) charakterisiert in Japan Schönheit, Aufbruch und Vergänglichkeit und ist das wichtigste Symbol Japans.
